Hi, I’m Scott Toolin
I love guitars, and everything that goes with them! I have been an avid guitar and bass player since I was a child. In the late-80s and early-90s, I was a gigging musician. Because I had some basic electronics knowledge, I was also deemed the band’s “repair” man, which I realized I enjoyed greatly. This led me to pursue my degree in Electronics Engineering. I graduated in 1996, and have since worked in the engineering departments of two global electronics corporations. By 2008, I had been promoted to “Manager of Production and Repair” for a high-tech company. But, all the while, I spent my nights and weekends continuing to build and repair guitar electronics for local customers.
In the early 2000s, I also served as a moderator for an online forum devoted to helping people build guitar effects pedals. I gave advice and guidance on designing, troubleshooting, and modifying circuits. I witnessed the early experiments of people who would go on to start their own boutique pedal companies, some with great success. And I have always been proud that I played a part in setting them on that course.
During those years, I also learned a lot about myself. It became evident that I was not cut-out for a corporate desk job. I like to work with my hands, be creative, solve problems, and find ways to improve circuits. And the positive response I was getting from my pedal and amp customers reassured me that, not only did I have the electronics knowledge, but I also had a genuine knack for discerning great guitar tone. So, in 2011, I left the corporate world and focused all my time on building and repairing guitar amps and effects. I have built my business, and my reputation, on simple principles: quality workmanship, diligence, integrity, and honesty.
I consider myself very fortunate that I get to spend my days doing something I enjoy. I have great customers, many of whom have become good friends. I provide repair services for a number of local music stores. I have worked on some truly amazing gear; things that, in my 20s, I only dreamed about ever seeing, let alone getting to work on it. And, best of all, I get to help people in their quest for “perfect” tone.
