Orange OR120 (1978)

This outstanding Orange came in for some tubes and a check-up. The original Plessey electrolytic caps had already been replaced by someone else, but the replacements are top-quality and still measured perfectly. So, all it needed was a little cleaning, and new glass. It got a pair of NOS Mullard preamp tubes, and a brand new set of Mullard reissue power tubes. I cleaned all the pots and jacks, as well as the tube sockets, and made sure the new tubes biased correctly.

I love the sound of the OR120. Though it wasn’t the earliest of the Orange amps, it was the one that set the bar for all future models. When people talk about the “Orange sound”, this is it. And I am sorry to say, the newer amps don’t do it justice. The only downside to this amp is that it is as heavy as it is loud. Just look at the size of those transformers!
